Disentangling dication dissociation dynamics using covariance map imaging Patrick A. Robertson, David Heathcote, Dennis Milesovic, Claire Vallance University of Oxford, United Kingdom The dissociation of C 2 F 6 following electron impact ionization between 50 and 100 eV has been studied using multi-mass velocity map ion imaging and covariance map imaging analysis. Single ionization events form parent C 2 F 6 + cations in an ensemble of electron states, which undergo a multiplex of relaxation pathways to eventually dissociate into an ion-neutral product pair. Dication dissociative pathways are also explored, and the mechanisms of dissociation of these highly charged ions are revealed by recoil-frame covariance map imaging.
