A Day in Decorah Wednesday, May 27 Get ready to explore Decorah, an Iowa city known for its natural beauty, rich Norwegian heritage, and up-and-coming art scene! Our day begins at the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum and Heritage Center to explore the stories of Norwegian immigrants through the collection of thousands of artifacts. See a cabin made from a single tree, elaborate costumes, colorful paintings, and other hand-crafted items of Norwegian heritage before we venture to Winneshiek Wildberry Winery. Here, we will enjoy a private lunch, wine tasting, and tour of the vineyard (subject to weather). Then we are off to Seed Saver’s Exchange. This non-profit was started in 1975 on the idea that a network of gardeners could preserve food biodiversity through the exchange of seeds around the world. Today, the seeds of thousands of plant varieties are collected, stored, and regenerated at the Decorah headquarters. With a greater appreciation for this group’s work, we will depart for home with a stop at the Bily Clocks Museum in Spillville to admire the elaborate, hand-carved clocks depicting important moments in history, religion, or culture. Cost per person is $145 and includes motorcoach transportation, lunch, admission to all activities, and taxes and gratuities. Register with Meg Sinnott at 319-358-2278 or FriendsClub@HillsBank.com. This Broadway sensation looks at what happened in the Land of Oz but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman, born with emerald-green skin— smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships, until the world decides to call one “good” and the other one “wicked.” From the first electrifying note to the final breathtaking moment, Wicked – the untold true story of the Witches of Oz – transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story that USA Today cheers is “a complete triumph! An original musical that will make you laugh, cry, and think.” Cost per person is $199 and includes motorcoach transportation, matinee show, meal, and taxes and gratuities. Register with a Friends Club representative at 319-679-2103 or FriendsClub@HillsBank.com. Wicked Des Moines Civic Center, Thursday, June 18
