The University Club Foundation Backpack Day
18th Annual Dick Peterson Backpack Day On July 26, the University Club
in 2006 and was the last member to reside at the Club. His legacy supports UClub staff and disadvantaged children in D.C. In addition to Backpack Day, the grant funds scholarships for College Bound students in the Community Action Committee’s University Bound program, supports other CAC initiatives, and provides grants to community organizations such as the SAMS Food Bank and Luther Place ArtSmart summer camp. We are deeply grateful for Dick’s generosity and his lasting impact on our community.
Foundation celebrated its 18th Annual Dick Peterson Backpack Day, providing 92 children and grandchildren of 43 Club employees with backpacks filled with school supplies. Executive Director Maria Jaramillo-Lieva made the day festive with ice cream sundaes, face painting, balloon animals, snacks, and Chef Paul’s amazing chocolate chip cookies. We wish all the students a wonderful school year! The event is funded by the Dick Peterson Grant, established through a generous bequest from longtime member Richard “Dick” W. Peterson, who passed away
