Fellow Members, I hope all of you have had an enjoyable and restful summer!
2025-2026 Board of Governors
President
Vice President
Treasurer
Assistant Treasurer
I know many of you leave the city for vacations and other travel. During the time you were able to spend at the Club, I think you would agree that the committees, Clubs within the Club and staff did a great job of providing many fun and meaningful events and activities this summer, from barbeques and speakers to our signature events. Thanks to all of you on committees and in clubs who do so much to contribute to the Club and to build community. Speaking of community, I would also like to thank the 110 Summer Guests who participated in our Club this summer and experienced our community firsthand. As I interacted with many of you, I saw the excitement and enthusiasm for all that the Club has to offer. Many Summer Guests are moving forward with full membership, and many others are in the final decision-making process. As I said at the Sum- mer Guest Program’s Ice Cream Social, I do hope we’ll see many of you around the Clubhouse this fall as full members of the Club and our community. I also highlighted all of the activities we are looking forward to in the fall, from our regular program- ming, athletics and fine dining to the lead-up to the holiday season. With many Summer Guests convert- ing and other newer members who are already part of our community, I thought I would put a spotlight on Clubs within the Club. But first, a few words on the committees. We have two kinds of committees in the Club: operational, like Finance, House, and Governance, among others, and programmatic, like the International Committee, Literature & Arts, and Squash, among others. Committees operate from June 1 through the following May 31 each gover- nance year. The Board of Governors turns over in late April, and in May it works on both strategic planning and committee assignments. To serve on a committee, we ask any member interested to fill out an Interest Form with three choices, even members currently serving on a committee. That process took place in the past in the February-March timeframe, but the time between applying and hearing about an assignment was too long. For the next governance
year, we’ll ask for members to fill out the Committee Interest Form in April and then let everyone know about selections in late May. With the committee year well underway, what else can current and new members do to get involved? Our varied Clubs within the Club present a great opportunity to participate in interesting and fun ac- tivities and to get to know other members and build your own network. As a new member, I began partic- ipating in the Cellar Dwellers wine and spirits tasting club, as well as the Military History Legion – the first one I attended a number of years ago featured the Battle of Malta and the most recent one I attended this August was on Russia, Ukraine and Putin in light of Russian nuclear capabilities. We have a regular Bridge Club and a Cinema Club, as well as the Great Books Club, which has grown significantly. Some members go off-site to hunt, shoot and fish with Fur, Fin & Feathers. An Equestrian Club has just been formed and will soon be active. A Golf Club outing took place in August. Horology is one of the more recent clubs, and Salon is one of the clubs that has been around for some time. And there are more. So please check out the list, see what might interest you, and get to know your fellow Club mem- bers. It’s all about Fellowship. Thanks for being members of the University Club! -Steve Aubin
