Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) is an international credentialing authority that accredits public safety agencies. The primary purpose of the commission is to improve law enforcement services by creating a national body of standards developed by law enforcement professionals. The commission is composed of 21 members; 11 selected by law
enforcement agencies and 10 from public and private sectors. FWPD will submit an application for CALEA accreditation three years after being recognized and obtaining recognition under the TPCA. Qualitative and Quantitative Benefits of COMPSTAT Compstat is a performance management system used in the FWPD to collectively examine and analyze crime activity in Fort Worth. This includes a geographic examination of specific crimes that have occurred, and analyzing the measures and strategies deployed to solve crimes. Compstat emphasizes information sharing up, down, and across the department, sharing responsibility, promoting accountability, and improving overall effectiveness. It includes four generally recognized core components: timely and accurate information or intelligence, rapid deployment of resources, effective tactics, and, continuous follow-up. The entire FWPD Command Staff attend bi-weekly Compstat meetings, to dissect crime statistics, identify issues, and brainstorm solutions in a positive and supportive environment. Additionally, each meeting revisits previously identified issues to assess strategies that worked, to revise those that did not, and to understand why. The meetings allow commanders to move away from a traditional hierarchical bureaucracy and instead provide personnel the opportunity to pursue creative and optimal solutions. Ultimately, FWPD is more flexible, creative, and better able to manage emerging crime trends by deploying the Compstat performance management system.
