Fort Worth Police Department Strategic Plan

Bureau Overview and Goals

Departmental Overview The FWPD consists of the following three bureaus: Patrol, Support, and Finance/Personnel (See Organization Chart in Part 1). Each Bureau includes two Commands, with Divisions, Sections, and Units under each Command. The following sections provide descriptions of each division and unit as well as their associated five-year goals. In order to summarize the achievement of goals, FWPD will track progress in an annual implementation report. Since each goal has a logical relationship with one or more Strategic Directions, the goal table illustrates this for the reader. Patrol Bureau FWPD currently consists of five patrol divisions: Central, North, East, South and West. In January 2016, the Patrol Bureau changed operational direction, and returned to a traditional police beat concept requiring the assignment of patrol officers to smaller, more manageable beats. The aforementioned growth and development trends and projections forecasted increases in demand for police services, and to meet those needs, sworn and civilian staffing must increase over time. During the next several years, FWPD identified a need for new patrol divisions and realignment of existing patrol divisions. Below is a map of the current patrol division alignment, and the proposed patrol alignment to incorporate a Sixth Division.
