Timeline

Reduce turnaround time for routine cases to 30 days and rush cases to a maximum of two weeks. All Latent Print examiners will receive required training and development to maintain certifications. Submit a plan to expand the services of the Latent Print Unit. Reduce turnaround time for routine cases to under 3 months, for case assignment to report, and reduce the toatal turnaround time to under one year. Biologists will receive required training and development to qualify for licensure. Validate Global filer DNA test kit with expanded Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) loci.

The Crime Laboratory maintains two accreditations: the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board and the Texas Forensics Science Commission. American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors / Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) The ASCLD/LAB accreditation is a program in which a crime laboratory demonstrates that its management, operations, personnel qualifications, procedures, instruments, security, and personnel safety procedures, meets certain standards. The accreditation process is one form of a quality assurance program, that easily combines with continuing education and other programs to help the crime laboratory to provide the criminal justice system improved service. A 2016 assessment of the FWPD Crime Lab found the lab conforms with all general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025:2005) in the following areas: Crime Laboratory – DNA Testing
