across several academic fields (criminal justice for crime reduction, education for GED and college enrolment rates, sociology for employment, etc.).

Phase 2: Community Building and Improvements

Upon completion of Phase I in the selected apartment community, the Leveraging Project will begin various community-building activities such as financial literacy classes, parenting classes, first aid/CPR classes, ESL classes, etc. All classes will be conducted on-site at the apartment community, with the goal of delivering life-skills and civic education to those residents who need it, and fostering an environment where relationships and a sense of community can be developed. Phase 3: Web-Based Platform (Future)

Ultimately, the Leveraging Project will include a web-based option where participants can take a needs assessment survey online to capture and address the needs of residents who move into the selected apartment communities after the initial round of surveys is complete. Planning for this phase is anticipated in 2017.

Neighborhood Police Officers (NPOs) The Neighborhood Patrol Officer (NPO) program provides the Fort Worth Police Department the ability to dedicate officers to go above and beyond typical patrol responsibility and provide services to an assigned neighborhood and/or designated geographic areas. The Crime Control and Prevention District funds the NPO program, which serves the existing five patrol divisions (North, East, South, West, and Central). One NPO is assigned to each of the department’s 81 police beats (defined geographic area). By having the NPOs dedicated to specific geographic areas, the

officers are not only able to become more familiar with the area, they are also able to serve as a resource for and get to know area residents and business owners better, learn about neighborhood concerns, and build working relationships with area Citizen on Patrol volunteers. Everyone works hand-in-hand in reducing crime and promoting crime prevention tools. Operation Partnership Emergency Network (OPEN) OPEN is a non-profit, multi-agency organization designed to facilitate the communication of accurate and timely information during emergency and non-emergency situations between government agencies and the private sector. Federal, State and Local government agencies, as well as private business groups and individuals, are represented within the Operation Partnership Emergency Network.
