Fort Worth Police Department Strategic Plan

Police Athletic League The mission of the Fort Worth Police Athletic League is to unite the communities of Fort worth with its Police Department by providing youth programs and mentorship that motivates, inspires and develops confidence, trust and respect. The FWPAL demonstrates local law enforcement’s continued concern for the children in our community by providing leadership and encouragement and instilling values such as ethics and respect to help our youth succeed and achieve their goals. FWPAL is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2016 through donations. The CODE Blue Basketball Program is a collaborative effort to engage school aged students in fun, responsible, and exciting activities. Partners include the Dallas Chapter of the National Basketball Retired Players Association, Fort Worth Independent School District, and the Fort Worth Police Department. The program evaluates progress of enrolled student participants while empowering them during post high school graduate transition from the community to college, and ultimately productive careers. Over one hundred officers will spend several hours per week in furtherance of the program (coaching, mentoring, etc.), including NPO sergeants, lieutenants, and divisional captains. Operation Safe Child The Operation Safe Child card program is a free service administered by the Fort Worth Police Department. Using the latest digital fingerprinting technology and high resolution photography, SAFE CHILD cards are produced for parents and guardians at public safety events throughout the year. The purpose of the program is to capture identifying information about the child that can provide important details to police agencies investigating child disappearances. The FWPD manages the crossing guards at all elementary schools within the city limits. Crossing guards are trained in traffic safety and are provided equipment to assist them with safely guiding students across busy streets. Crossing guards typically work three hours per day, split between morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up of students. There are currently 232 intersections that require a crossing guard. The Department is outsourcing the management of the crossing guards to a private company to increase efficiency. Partners with a Shared Mission The purpose of the Partners with a Shared Mission key funding area in the Crime Control and Prevention District is to enhance crime prevention efforts through after school programs and other community enrichment programs.
