YOUR FINANCIAL ADVOCATE 25 JULY
Discover the Freedom You Deserve With This Game-Changing Book RETHINK RETIREMENT
personal wisdom live on long after your wealth has been transferred. Because at the end of the day, a number in a bank account can disappear. But the stories, lessons, and values that made you who you are? That’s the kind of wealth that never fades.” Through careful planning, we can ensure that what we leave behind — whether for family, friends, or charitable causes — creates more freedom for others. That’s a powerful way to think about wealth: not just as something we build for ourselves, but as something that can continue long after we’re gone. WHERE CAN YOU GET THE BOOK? “The Retirement Tax Trap” is now available on Amazon. Grab a copy and start the journey toward a more empowered financial future. Whether you plan to read it this summer or share it with someone who needs to hear its message, this book could be the first step toward a whole new kind of independence. “This is your way out of the maze. The walls that once seemed impossible to scale — the complexity of taxes, the traps hidden in retirement accounts, the minefield of estate planning — are now just obstacles you know how to navigate. The difference between those who escape the financial maze and those who remain trapped in it comes down to one thing: action.” — “The Retirement Tax Trap”
Along with a bunch of fireworks, barbecues, and celebrations, July is a month that naturally brings up the topic of independence. While most of us associate Independence Day with fireworks and celebrations, it’s also the perfect time to talk about another kind of freedom — financial independence. And this year, I have something new to help people on that journey: “The Retirement Tax Trap,” my book written as both a call to action and a practical guide to long-term financial empowerment. Released just in time for this season of reflection and freedom, “The Retirement Tax Trap” isn’t your typical financial advice book. It’s not technical, overly academic, or filled with jargon. Instead, it was designed to be approachable and impactful while raising awareness about hidden threats in our retirement planning and sparking real action. WHY THIS BOOK, AND WHY NOW? My “why” behind writing this book came from a desire to reach more people more effectively with a message often overlooked: the dangers that lie hidden in traditional retirement savings plans. There are problems many people don’t even realize are sitting dormant in their savings. The tax time bomb, for one, and other risks rarely talked about in mainstream financial conversations. This book is tied directly to my “March to a Million” mission, a movement aimed at positively impacting one million lives through education, awareness, and smarter financial planning. Whether you’re just
starting to think about retirement or have been saving for years, this book serves as a wake-up call to examine how your money is working — or not working — for your future. WHAT DOES FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE REALLY MEAN? For many, the concept of financial independence is still rooted in a traditional mindset: Save until 65, retire, then finally enjoy life. However, that model is outdated. In an era where people are living longer and working differently, and technology is reshaping our world, the old finish line no longer makes sense. True financial freedom isn’t about deferring all joy and access to your savings until an arbitrary retirement age. It’s about striking a balance between living well today, planning wisely for tomorrow, and minimizing the penalties and taxes that can erode your hard-earned wealth. Financial freedom is about choice. It’s about being a good steward of your money and having the flexibility to support yourself, your family, and even your community — both while you’re here and after you’re gone. A LEGACY BEYOND RETIREMENT One of the themes I discuss in “The Retirement Tax Trap” is the idea that financial stewardship doesn’t end when life does. This excerpt from the book brings it back home: “We don’t just build financial fortresses. We help you build family fortresses — so your values, principles, and

the probate courts throughout Central Ohio and prepare probate paperwork for our clients daily. I also help out with deeds and some estate planning documents. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB? My favorite part of my job is the variety of activities I get to do and skills I get to learn and practice. No probate case is the same nor is an estate plan. I really enjoy working on both sides of the firm because it gives me different types of paperwork to do, and I get to learn different aspects of law. I also really enjoy problem-solving, and this job allows me to do that. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE HESITANT ABOUT ESTATE PLANNING? If anyone is thinking about estate planning and wants to prepare for their future, I think the best thing for them to do is to call a trusted estate planning attorney to get some more information and resources. A consultation with an attorney can be very helpful in creating a plan that best fits their needs and goals. EMILY LEITER PARALEGAL STAFF SPOTLIGHT:

Estate Planning for Long-Term Financial Freedom Red, White, and Prepared
PREPARING FOR LIFE’S ‘WHAT IFS’ Independence means being prepared. Estate planning includes documents like healthcare directives and durable powers of attorney, which let you choose who will make decisions for you if you’re unable to. This gives you the freedom to live confidently, knowing you’re protected, no matter what life throws your way. LEAVING A LEGACY With the right estate plan, you can leave a legacy that supports your family, your values, and your community. Whether through charitable giving, education funds, or passing down a family business, your independence lives on through intentional planning.
As the fireworks light up the sky and our U.S. flags fly high this month, it’s a natural time to reflect on the many ways we value freedom, including financial freedom. While estate planning may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the Fourth of July, as mentioned on the cover, it’s one of the most powerful tools for building long-term financial independence for yourself and your loved ones. CONTROL OVER YOUR ASSETS Estate planning lets you decide exactly how your assets will be managed, used, and passed on. Without a plan, courts or laws could make those decisions and may not reflect your wishes. By creating a will, trust, or power of attorney, you’re ensuring your wealth goes where you want — and when you want. That kind of control is financial freedom in action.
REDUCING TAXES AND PRESERVING WEALTH
A smart estate plan can help reduce the tax burden on your estate, preserving more of your hard-earned assets for future generations. This includes minimizing estate taxes, capital gains taxes, and even income taxes through strategic planning tools. Financial independence isn’t just about what you earn — it’s also about what you keep.
Remember, estate planning is a powerful step toward a future that’s truly yours.

Whenever you hear a friend or family member say they’re going to take a road trip to visit some of America’s most beautiful national parks, they usually plan to visit the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, the Great Smoky Mountains, or Yosemite. These national parks consistently attract millions of visitors every year, but they’re far from the only must-see national parks in the country. There are 429 protected national sites within the U.S., and 63 of those have obtained the official “national park” designation in their names. (The other labels are battlefields, historic sites, monuments, recreation areas, etc.) If you want to experience the beauty of America without the crowds, consider visiting these destinations during your next vacation!

Once you head back outside, a beautiful mixed-grass prairie, home to bison, prairie dogs, and more, will greet you.
