EPCS- Electronic Prescription of Controlled Substances
Providers can send electronic prescriptions of scheduled II through V controlled substances (EPCS) to pharmacies and receive refill request back from them. EPCS is regulated by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and requires dual authentication: a password and soft token provided by the Imprivata Confirm ID app. Benefits from using EPCS are less paperwork, a single prescribing workflow, integrated prescriptions into the patient record, reduced prescription forgeries and transcription errors, automated regulatory reporting, less patient waiting time at the pharmacy, less trips to the office, and improved patient satisfaction.
