Frequently asked questions
1. Do I need to have the app running on the background or open to perform EPCS? If you have an IPhone, the app doesn’t need to be running, as long as you've given permission for location services and background updating. Signing the script onscreen will actually open the app. If you have an Android, the App does need to be running. 2. If I have an app that closes applications to save battery life in my Android device, do I need to inactivate to perform ECPS? You will need to exclude the Imprivata App from battery saving apps during the time frame you wish to use it.
3. What is the distance from my mobile phone to the computer that will allow me to use the hands-free option? 33ft (10m) is the standard Bluetooth limitation.
4. Can I use EPCS (non-hands-free workflow) with smart watches such the Apple Watch or Android Wear? Yes, you will get the push soft token message directly in your watch face.
5. What do I need to do if I upgrade my phone or if it was lost or stolen? Any new mobile device will need to be enrolled at the medical staff office. If you device was lost or stolen, you will need to immediately notify our medical staff office to deactivate your device, as the DEA requires your EPCS to be suspended until a phone is re-enrolled.
6. What if my DEA registration expires, is terminated, revoked or suspended? You will no longer be authorized to use the institutional EPCS and you should inform our medical staff promptly.
7. Is it permissible to have your office staff complete all of the required information for a controlled substance prescription and then have you sign and authorize the transmission of the prescription? Yes, however, if your staff enters information at your direction prior to you reviewing and approving the information, you are responsible in the event the prescription does not conform in all essential respects to the law and regulations.
8. Who can I contact if I have problems with EPCS or additional questions? Please call the help desk 585-MYPC
