of the company president would take over the company from their fathers someday. Then life took a turn. Brewer and his father were let go. After a fruitless six-month job search, Brewer called his dad and the outcome of that call ended up being Package Crafters. Brewer put everything he had on the line to start the company which is now in its 20th year. Acquiring Package Crafters in 2015 brought in new opportunities and chal- lenges, especially when trying to lead from hundreds of miles away. “Gary’s story is as unique as this great industry,” said AICC President Mike D’Angelo. “It’s fascinating and in- structive to hear the diverse paths each Breaking Down Boxes guest has taken to being the impactful leaders that they are. Not two are alike.” Subscribe to Breaking Down Boxes on all major pod- cast platforms or visit www.AICCbox.org/Boxes . AF&PA Testifies On EPA ‘Good Neighbor’ Rule At Senate Hearing AF&PA testified at a hearing with the United States Sen- ate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW) recently that focused on examining the Environmental Pro- tection Agency’s “Good Neighbor” plan. The hearing drew attention to the need for sustain- able regulation from the Environmental Protection Agen- cy (EPA) and the cumulative regulatory challenges facing manufacturers. AF&PA believes EPA changed the rationale for which industrial sectors are included and, according to the origi- nal criteria, paper mills did not qualify. According to the AF&PA, the EPA assumed certain pol- lution controls were proven when they have never been installed at paper mills and their use would result in great- er greenhouse gases. Senator Tom Carper suggested a need for senators and stakeholders to work together with EPA to find solu- tions to the rule. Witnesses were asked at the hearing to provide suggestions in writing by April 26. The AF&PA will be submitting recommendations.
