Local News: COVID Cancellations
Rush Rowing Club Jenny Flynn, and her colleagues from Rush Rowing Club had all their preparations in place for this year ’ s Lambay Rowing Challenge, which was due to take place in September. But COVID - 19 scuppered that plan, as Dublin moved to Level 3, and the club reluctantly had no option but to reschedule for later in the year, or early in 2021. Although the row has been postponed, the Lambay Challenge raffle is going ahead! Thanks to the generosity of local businesses in Rush and Fingal, there are some fantastic prizes to be won. The raffle is a hugely important source of fundraising for our club and keeps us on the water! Get your tickets now at www.fingalrowingclub.ie. Winners will be drawn on Saturday 17 th October. The club is delighted to report that their new racing standard boat build is well underway following a successful Sports Capital Grant allocation in 2017 (2 nd round). In 2021 there will be a fleet of 4 skiffs which will enable an increase in membership and give the ability to compete in various long - distance races and weekly regattas. There are plans to progress an application for funding for a FISA rowing boat which is the future of Olympic coastal rowing. Who knows, we may have a future Olympic Rower from Rush! Jenny tells us, “ Since restrictions lifted on sporting activity at the start of the summer we ’ ve been back on the water. We have a range of health and safety protocols in place to make sure that our boats, oars and other equipment is thoroughly sanitised after each use, and we ’ re practicing mask wearing, social distancing and pods so that all club members can row safely and with confidence. While we are always keen to hear from potential new members, we have been very restricted this year with Try Rows. If you are interested in rowing, please do get in touch though. We ’ ll add you to our database and get you out on the water as soon as it ’ s safe to do so. ”
The new skiff looking very sleek indeed
Millbank Theatre Comments on cancellations Due to the government ’ s decision to place Dublin City and County in to level 3, the Millbank Movies unfortunately won ’ t be able to operate for the next 3 weeks. We are disappointed in this decision. The arts sector has been hit hard again, making things very difficult. For those who have booked already for “ Portrait of a Lady on Fire ” you can get a refund by emailing manager@millbanktheatre.ie , please quote your booking reference number. If we can reschedule the Movies that were due to screen at a later date we will update the page here and our website. We still plan on running with “ Beyond ” by Pat Kinevane & The Man in the Woman ’ s Shoes as these are not in the next 3 weeks. Should the situation change we will update here and our facebook page.
