Restaurants out, apartments in … The owners of popular restaurant Silks, in Malahide are looking to demolish the restaurant, replacing it with a new restaurant and 6 apartments. The Council are requesting additional information. Also in Malahide, the Council are looking for additional information from the owners of the former Oscar

Traynor ’ s restaurant, who are seeking to add another 112 sqm to their development of an apartment complex on the site. The company, October Management Ltd, has already secured planning permission for the development, and these changes will increase the size of some rooms and balconies, but they do not increase the actual number of units.

Council Matters

Joe O ’ Brien TD has been in touch regarding the cycle path planned between Lusk and Blakes Cross, and the absence of any similar path from Rush to Lusk. When we heard about this issue just before the September Rush Times went to press, we contacted all our TD ’ s for comments. Local Councillor Brian Dennehy (FF) sent in a very comprehensive reply almost immediately (thanks Brian), and Joe was the only TD to reply (thanks Joe), but unfortunately we had already sent the issue to the printer before we received this email.

Hi Liam,

Many thanks for getting in touch about this.

I believe what your reader is referencing is the recently announced details of allocation by the NTA of funding for active travel under the July stimulus – details here: https://www.nationaltransport.ie/news/nta - allocates - e55m - to - councils - for - cycling - and - walking - projects - under - july - jobs - stimulus - plan/ Part of Fingal ’ s allocation under this is €1.3 million for an improved cycle connection from Lusk to Blakes Cross via Corduff National School. As these allocations are exceptional stimulus grants they are usually focused on temporary cycling tracks and improvement of existing infrastructure – the idea being to achieve these measures quickly to boost active travel in the short term. This spending is in addition to planned spending on cycling which would usually form part of the annual budget. More medium term projects such as a cycle link from Rush to Lusk would be funded in that manner.

Best wishes,

Joe

Councillor Dean Mulligan has also been in touch to say that he has a question tabled for the local area council meeting in September. The Council posts updates on meetings on their website, but they tend to be a few months out of date, so perhaps Dean will be good enough to let us know how he gets on.
