MORMONISM—CAN IT STAND INVESTIGATION? (Continued from Page 15) 1 am about to give unto you; for all those who have this law revealed unto them must obey the same. For behold, I reveal unto you a new and everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory. And as. pertaining to the new and everlasting covenant, it was instituted for the fulness of my glory; and he that receiveth a ful ness thereof must and shall abide the law, or he shall be damned, saith the Lord God. I am the Lord thy God, and will give unto thee the law of my Holy Priesthood. .. And again, as per taining to the law of the priest hood—If any man espouse a virgin, and desire to espouse another, and the first give her consent, and if he espouse the second, and they are vir gins, and have vowed to no other man, then is he justified . . . And if he have ten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot com mit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; there fore is he justified.” Doctrine and Covenants, Section 182, verses 3, 4, 6, 28, 61, 62 B. “According to the custom of all civ ilized nations, marriage is regulated by laws and ceremonies: therefore, we believe that all marriages in this Church of Christ of Latter-day Saints, should be solemnized in a public meeting, or feast, prepared for that purpose; and that the sol emnization should be performed by a presiding high priest, high priest, bishop, elder, or priest, not even pro hibiting those persons who are de sirous to get married, of being mar ried by other authority . . . ” “ .. .he shall say, calling each by their names, ‘You both mutually agree to be each others companion, husband and wife, observing the legal rights belonging to this coh- dition; that is, keeping yourselves wholly for each other, and from all others, during your lives’. And when they have answered ‘Yes’, he shall pronounce them ‘husband and wife’ . . . “ Inasmuch as this church of Christ has been reproached with the crime of fornication, and polyg amy; we declare that we believe that one man should have one wife; and one woman but one husband, except in case of death, when either is at liberty to marry again . . . ” Doctrine and Covenants, Section CIX, 1866 Edition (Continued on Page 18)

sionary, sustain by your prayers, your influence, and your property those who are. In these ways Jesus Christ now sus tains them. By His prayers, as Advocate and Intercessor with the Father; by His influence, as He is vested with all power in Heaven and earth; by His property, by pouring out fresh supplies of His Spirit, and opening the hearts of His children to contribute. In order, therefore, to be like Christ, go about doing good; and if it is not in your power to give yourselves to this work, give your prayers, your influ ence, and your property. So far as we are like Christ in this world, so far shall we be like Him through eternity. So far as we sustain this cause, which is pe culiarly the cause of God, so far shall we be happy through endless ages. —Adoniram Jnelson “It is easier and less costly to build straight boys and girls than to reclaim crooked men and women.” Both Safe A little fly in Noah’s ark was just as safe as an elephant. It was not the ele phant’s size and strength that made him safe. It was the ark that saved both ele phant and fly. It is not your righteousness, your good works, that will save you. Rich or poor, learned or unlearned, you can be saved only by the blood of Christ. “ The blood of Jesus Christ his [God’s] Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). — D. L. Moody The hardest instrument to play is the second fiddle. Wrong Orders Some years ago a passenger train was flying into New York as another train was emerging. There was a head-on col lision. Fifty lives were snuffed out. An engineer was pinned under his engine. The blood was pouring from his nostrils and tears were running, down his cheeks. In his dying agonies he held a piece of yellow paper crushed in his hand, and he said, “ Take this. This will show you that someone gave me the wrong orders.” Un regenerate men and women will stand before the Great White Throne and point to their modernist preachers, saying, “ Someone gave me the wrong orders.” —Selected The difference between catching fish and men is that you catch fish that are alive and they die; you catch men that are dead and bring them to life. —Herbert Lockyer Page Seventeen

When you are down in the dumps the best cure is to go and tell someone about Christ. Christ the Key to History Testimony of a G reat Historian “ I do not know why, two months ago, I took it into my head to read the New Testament, before my [historical] stud ies had advanced to the age in which it was written. I had not read it for many years and was P R E J U D I C E D AGAINST IT before I took it in hand. I have read no book on this subject, but hitherto in all my studies of the ancient times, I have always felt the- want of something, and it was not until I knew our Lord that all was clear to me; with Him there is nothing which I am not able to solve. If this religion is not di vine, I understand nothing at all.” —Julius Von Mueller A lion has only to be let loose and he needs no defender. Give the Word of God free course and it will be victor over all assault. —Arthur T. Pierson Lasting Investment When Livingstone went to Africa, a Scotch woman, who had saved thirty pounds, came and presented the money to him. “ I want you to save yourself needless toil and exposure by hiring some com petent body servant, who will go with you wherever you go and share your sac rifices and dangers.” With the money, Livingstone hired his faithful servant, Sebantino. In the heart of Africa, a lion threw Livingstone down and crushed the bones of his left arm. But Sebantino saved the missionary at the risk of his own life. What if the gift had not been made? Those who seek to take over the steer ing of the wheel of their life, make them selves responsible, not for a safe journey, but for a wreck. The Missionary I regard the office of the missionary as a most glorious occupation, because the faithful missionary is engaged in a work which is like that of the Lord Jesus Christ; and a missionary who is unfaith ful sinks to the lowest of his species in guilt and ignominy. Happy are they who can in this respect follow Christ. But the Lord Jesus is not now a missionary. He has retired from this employment, and now employs Himself in sustaining His missionaries, with the promise, “ Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end.” If you can not, therefore, become a mis
