2023 Spring Program Guide

CENTENNIAL BEACH

Swim Lessons: Indoor • AGES 5-14 This program is designed to improve each child’s swimming skills at his or her own pace. Swimmers are placed by skill level and each participant will learn water safety skills appropriate to their level. Level 1 class size is 2-4 students; Levels 2-7 class size is 3-5 students. Swimming requires advanced motor coordination that takes practice; it is normal for a swimmer to remain at the same level for more than one session. If, after a session begins, we believe a swimmer has been placed in an inappropriate level, we will make the adjustment to ensure that every child will feel comfortable at their assigned level. (bs) LEVEL 1 provides beginning swimmers with a basic familiarity with water. Students learn, among other skills, to put their faces in the water, float and flutter kick. More importantly, they learn to trust their instructors and realize that swimming is fun! Class size is generally 2-4 students. LEVEL 2 builds upon the skills learned in Level 1. Students learn to add arms to their flutter kick to create a solid foundation in freestyle and backstroke. Class size is generally 3-5 students. LEVEL 3 is taught in the deep end. This level aims to equip students with deep water safety survival skills. Students learn to tread water in an efficient manner, jump in and recover to the surface and explore swimming down to the bottom of the pool guided by a pole and the instructor. Class size is generally 3-5 students. LEVEL 4 students work to refine swimmers’ freestyle and backstroke, working on shoulder rotation and adding an eight-beat kick and bilateral breathing. Class size is generally 3-5 students. LEVEL 5 provides building blocks to learning butterfly and breaststroke in addition to sidestroke and elementary backstroke. In addition to their application in future levels, these strokes are integral to water safety/ survival skills. Class size is generally 3-5 students. LEVEL 6 challenges students to master butterfly and breaststroke. Class size is generally 3-5 students. LEVEL 7 prepares students for swim team by teaching them racing starts

Swim Conditioning • AGES 7-16 Conditioning and stroke clinic is open to any swimmer in second grade through high school. Swimmers must be able to swim competitively. Swimmers should already know how to swim a 50-yard freestyle and 50- yard backstroke. Stroke clinics improve swimmer skills in each of the four strokes along with starts and turns.
