FUTURE READY
LEVEL 1 STUDIES
A PATHWAY FOR PRE-ENTRY STUDENTS The Future Ready Transition Pathway provides opportunities for young people to develop their skills, build their confidence and prepare them for further study. It is specifically designed for students with no formal educational experience or those who have been assessed at Entry Level 3 or below.
Weekly Tutorials Each student participates in a weekly tutorial with a Student Manager to discuss college life, current affairs, and relevant social issues impacting young people in Britain today. Enrichment Sessions These sessions focus on developing communication and leadership skills through a variety of activities beyond the classroom, encouraging personal growth and confidence. OUTCOME By the end of the course, students will be equipped with a strong foundation in academic and employability skills, greater self-confidence, and a clear pathway towards technical study and career development.
COURSE OVERVIEW The Transition Pathway emphasises skills development in core areas such as maths, English, and science, alongside employment skills and confidence building. Its timetable provides a supportive environment aimed at preparing students for successful progression into technical areas of study at Preston College. KEY FEATURES Core Academic Skills Students receive foundational lessons in maths, English, and science to equip them with the essential skills needed to excel in their chosen field. Employment Skills Development A dedicated employability skills course helps students identify their strengths, understand workplace expectations, and prepare for future career opportunities. Subject Exploration Students engage in experiences within a subject or course area of personal interest, fostering aspirations for further study in that area the following year.
We recommend that you try your best at school and work hard to achieve the grades that will help to get your career off to a flying start. Regardless of outcomes, don’t worry, at Preston College we have a range of Level 1 courses that can help you realise your career ambitions. Your Level 1 course will include your core subject and additional units including Maths, English, Personal Development, Employability Skills, and Working with Others. You will also have additional opportunities such as guest speakers, work experience and projects to enhance your learning experience. On GCSE results day, if your results are not what you expected, get in touch with our Careers Guidance Team, and they can advise you on your options. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I COMPLETE MY COURSE? • During your programme, you will have regular meetings with your Student Manager to see if you are ready to progress to the next level of study. • At the end of your course you will choose which subject you’d like to study at Level 2. • You could also go on to study an Apprenticeship at Level 2.
