CHILD & EARLY YEARS OFFICER Working alongside other professionals, such as Social Workers and Educational Psychologists, Child and Early Years Officers identify, plan and deliver appropriate support to families facing a variety of difficulties. They attend meetings, write up case notes, prepare reports and advise clients and their families on available support and resources. To be successful in this career you’ll need excellent communication skills and empathy to help families through difficult times. You’ll typically be qualified to degree level, however, there are opportunities to develop your career in the workplace. The T Level in Education and Early Years will help you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the early years sector including the employment opportunities within it. During your industry placement you will apply your knowledge to real-life scenarios and see for yourself the difference you can make.

At Preston College we offer the T Level in Education and Early Years which combines classroom learning with an extended industry placement which provides invaluable experience in the workplace. The T Level in Education and Early Years not only shows employers that you are ready to work but also earns UCAS points, so you can progress to university to study degree programmes.

“ Emily joined Preston College from Holy Cross Catholic High School as a scholarship student and was initially unsure about the career path she would follow. After two years of study, Emily is now starting her career in Early Years as a Nursery Practitioner. My industry placements allowed me to gain experience in a primary school and in a nursery. This helped me to determine that I wanted to work in a nursery. The nursery I did my placement in, is now my employer.

T LEVEL IN EDUCATION & EARLY YEARS The T Level in Education and Childcare offers students the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of the sector and the holistic needs of children and young people from 0-19 years of age. You will cover child development, how to support children and young people’s education, safeguarding, health and safety and wellbeing, understanding and managing behaviour, observing and assessing children and young people, special educational needs and disability, working with parents, carers and wider families and working with agencies and services that support children, families and carers.
