Science is a vast area with hundreds of opportunities across different sectors. You can choose to specialise in a field or use your skills to work in commercial areas. Areas of employment include, but are not limited to: academia, research, food science, chemicals, criminal investigation, environmental science, geoscience, and healthcare sciences. You’ll need skills in problem solving, data analysis and presentation skills to collate the findings of your investigations into meaningful information. At Preston College you can study the T Level in Science which provides a broad foundation of knowledge that can be applied to any science discipline. You will also benefit from our iSTEM Centre - home to dedicated science facilities and equipment. iSTEM houses a PCR machine which amplifies DNA, ultraviolet visible spectrophotometer, digital melting point apparatus, infrared spectrophotometer and forensic kits.

BIOLOGICAL SCIENTISTS & BIOCHEMISTS Biological Scientists perform tests and study physiological and pathological characteristics within cells and other organisms. These tests and studies can be utilised to provide insight into the effects of internal and external environmental factors on life processes and other functions of living organisms. They can also be used to advise other professions such as farmers or medical staff on the nature of field crops and on the treatment and prevention of disease. You’ll typically be educated to degree level to get started in the industry. The T Level in Science at Preston College is worth up to 168 UCAS points and can be used to gain entry to university science programmes. With experience you may wish to consider pursuing a masters or doctorate to develop your knowledge and career further.
