PRESTON COLLEGE NEWS MP MAYA ELLIS VISITS COLLEGE

Preston College students have been taking part in a wide range of competitions this year including World Skills, Lancashire Skills Competition, Concept Hairdressing, ATA Hair, Beauty & Media Make-Up Competition and SkillBuild. Here is a round-up of how they got on… World Skills Cyber Competition Won by our Level 3 IT students. Concept Hairdressing Competition from over 2,000 entries one of our Level 3 Hairdressing Students Kelly Hill got through to the final round. During the Lancashire Skills Competition week, we won more shields than any other provider! First place positions were achieved in Construction, Barbering, Health & Social Care and Travel & Tourism. Students took a lot of the second and third places as well, alongside numerous Medal of Excellence awards being received. COMPETITION WINS

In February, MP Maya Ellis visited Preston College, exploring how we use technical education to shape the future. During her visit she saw our facilities for health, construction, engineering, and digital industries. The visit allowed her to witness the impact of our strong employer partnerships, preparing students for high-skilled careers. When Maya went to parliament after her visit, she spoke about the importance of further education and the impact of Preston College. “What really blew me away at Preston College was the feel of the college! It feels inspiring, modern, a place to really grow, where people feel truly supported and at home.” MP Ellis said.

Awards were also given out for things like Attendance, Positive Attitude and Personal Development whilst Students of the Year were also named. Reflecting on the day, Health and Social students Mary Jane Chukwuka, Agnes Owolabi and Temiloluwa Oguntade, all 17, said: “It’s been amazing, awesome, we’ve loved it. We’ve just finished our GCSEs so it’s gives us a chance to have some fun, it’s the best. It’s also important to spend time together as friends and have fun before results day.”

In June 2025, Preston College held its first ever Aspiration Week. For the first three days, students were busy ensuring they had submitted everything they need to achieve their qualifications, but the highlight of the week came on the Thursday and Friday when students were treated to two days of pure fun. There was a cross-college football competition, three huge inflatable games in the sports hall: a golf darts board, a Total Wipeout-esque assault game and a life-size Hungry Hippos game. Aside from the fun, individual assemblies were held for each curriculum area, allowing students

At the Awards, Vice Principal Mick Noblett and Vice Principal Iain Stott announced the finalists and winners through heartfelt videos from the students’ tutors. The evening was further enriched with captivating performances by the Actor Training Academy’s Grace and Elliott, while student filmmakers and photographers Jake and Callum expertly captured the event. NODA WINS We are pleased to announce our performing arts courses won a total of six NODA awards for our productions in 2024! Awards were won by our Foundation Learning, ATA and MTTA students in a range of categories. Our performing arts department win at these awards year after year.
