incredible discipline to stay focused on what matters most. “I set a recurring reminder to go off every 15 minutes throughout the day,” he says. “It became really annoying, but the mission was accomplished. Every 15 minutes I would ask myself, ‘What is the highest and best use of my time?’ This forced me to pause, step back, and use the next 15 minutes in the best way possible. It helped me stop telling myself that cleaning my desk was a great use of my time. It’s easy to be busy, but if no one is being served, if you aren’t solving any problems, then you aren’t moving the needle at all. Lots of times I felt like I was working, but the Seven Critical Business-Building Activities were not being done. Melaleuca isn’t hard. The Critical Activities aren’t hard. Being focused is hard.” It’s no surprise that a duo as spirited as the Hoenickes embrace flexibility in the way they have built their
business. They have seasons of immense focus so they can have seasons where they go on family adventures for weeks or months at a time. No matter how the pendulum swings for them, though, they are determined to be faithful to the fundamentals every month. “When the Critical Activity Bonus was announced, I made a firm decision to never miss out on earning that bonus, and I haven’t,” Kristian says. “That bonus has been the most impactful thing to my team’s habits, trajectory, and bottom line income.” And that’s the strategy of Kristian and Kristin’s success—keeping things simple and repeating the Critical Activities. “I do the basics,” says Kristian, “and I don’t pretend to be good at any of it. We just read the Melaleuca Overview. We aren’t fancy. We don’t add anything to it. We start at the top and go to the bottom.”
If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?
Kristin: Is there a superpower that
has to do with Broadway? I’d
want to be able to play any part in a Broadway show. Kristian: Flying.
