works.” (Heb. 9:14.) “The blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanseth us from ALL sin.” (1 John 1:7.) The cross alone makes possible the sound doctrine of Sanctification. “We are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” (Heb. 16:10.) “That He might sanctify the people with His own blood.” (Heb. 13:12.) And if there be any other blessing that a Saviour-God can, in the riches of His grace, offer to a sinful humanity, it must be “through the blood of His cross.” But the devil hates the blood. He hates the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. He hates the Saviour of sinners. He hates every one that trusts that Saviour and His precious blood. He hates the light- of the glorious gospel shining into the minds of men, and will hinder it,- if he can. He hates the preaching of the cross and will stop it, if he can. He hates any sinner believing in the Crucified and will discourage it, if he can. He hates the whole scheme and plan of God’s salvation. He points with pride to the self- righteousness of the Christ-rejectdng Jews, that he may make “foolish” the preaching of the cross. He points with pride to the worldly wisdom of the Christ-rejecting Greeks, that he may make “foolish” the preach ing of the cross. But, reader, who are the real fools? those who reject or those who accept “Jesus Christ and Him crucified” ? Who are the wise? those who reject or those who accept Christ, "the Wis dom of God” ? / And who are the righteous?, those who reject or those who accept the Lord Christ, “who of God is made unto us righteousness” ? “Let one in his innocence glory, Another in works he has done; Thy cross is my claim and my title, Beside it, O Lord, I have none.”

“For tbe preaching (word) of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; bat unto ns who are saved it is the power of God..................... It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” (1 Cor. I 1 I 8 , 21.) HE cross is the fundamental power of the gospel. The gospel is God’s power to save, and the crosS is God’s * Therefore the preaching of the gospel IS the preaching of the cross. Without the cross we are without the gospel of God. Without the cross we are without eternal salvation. Without the cross God cannot save. The cross alone makes possible the sound doctrine of Propitiation. | “Who gave Himself a ransom for all.” (1 Tim. 2:6.) “That He by the grace of God should taste death for every man.” (Heb. 2:6.) The cross alone makes possible the sound doctrine of Substitution. “The Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” (Is. 53:6.) “Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree.”- (1 Pet. 2:24.) The cross alone makes possible the sound doctrine of Reconciliation. “We were reconciled to God by the death of His Son. (Rom. 5:10.) “And you . . . . hath He reconciled in the body of His flesh through death.” (Col. 1:21, 22.) The cross alone makes possible the sound doctrine of . _ • Redemptive Forgiveness of Sins. “In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” (Col. 1:14; Eph. 1:7.) The cross alone makes possible the sound doctrine of Purgation of Sins. “When He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.” (Heb. 1:3.) “How mueh more shall the blood ot Christ purge your conscience from dead power to save.
