Lord, lest we should fret, As though Thy love could e’er forget— Calm patience give! Thine, O Lord, is the victory.— 1 Chronicles 29:11. Give victory, Lord, when foes assail. That o’er all sin we may prevail—- Sure victory give! John Newton says Satan seldom comes to Christians with great tempta tions, or with a temptation to commit a great sin. You bring a green log and a candle together, and they are very safe neighbors; but bring a few shav ings, and set them alight, and then bring a few small sticks and let them take fire, and the log be in the midst of them, and you will soon get rid of your log. And so it is with little sins. You will be startled with the idea of committing a great sin; and so the Devil brings you a little temptation, and leaves you, to indulge yourself. “ There is no great harm in this,” “ no great peril in that;” and so by these little chips we are first easily lighted a» m LITTLE CHIPS
know, boys and girls, we say things w should not say, making our lips and tongues unclean. Then in his vision he sees one of the angels take a live coal of fire off from the altar, and put it on his (Isaiah’s) lips. The angel then told him his sin was taken away. Now, we know God’s people had forgotten Him, and at this time God called, and asked who would go and warn His people to turn away from their sins, and come back to God. And now listen to what Isaiah answered. “ Here am I; send me.” Isn’t that a wonderful memory verse? We see Isaiah did not wait or ask any questions, but volunteered at once, even though it would not be easy to go 'to these people and tell them of their sins and their danger. After hearing this wonderful story, don’t you think we can live it out in our own lives in being more ready to obey our teachers and parents, and first of all the Lord Jesus? You know if we are true soldiers to Jesus and obey Him, we are sure to be obedi ent to parents and teachers. BLACKBOARD SKETCHES By Em Hansell Vs. 1-5. Isaiah’s Vision and its ef fect.
