CIPP Payroll: need to know 2018-2019

HMRC estimates that currently only around 10% of people who should comply with the off-payroll working rules do so. The cost of non-compliance in the private sector is growing and is estimated that it will reach £1.2 billion a year by 2022/23. The consultation provides an early evaluation of the public sector reform which external research on initial implementation shows that the reform has had relatively little impact on projects or vacancy filling in the public sector. Within the consultation it provides options for changes to the off-payroll working rules for engagements in the private sector.

Listen to our short webcast to find out what the consultation is all about. The Policy team will also be publishing a survey in due course to gather your views and experience to help inform our response.

Do you have an automatic enrolment wish list? 6 August 2018

After a long period of roll out and with just one further contribution rate increase to deliver in April 2019, workplace pensions are now operating in the ‘business as usual’ space.

But what problems are you encountering on a day to day basis with the operation and managing an accurate data flow between payroll and your pension provider - or providers if you are a payroll provider, accountant or book keeper providing outsourced services to a number of clients. What issues are you experiencing on a day to day basis – indeed are you experiencing any reoccurring issues that are the cause of inaccurate Automatic Enrolment data submissions. Does this raise concerns for you, for employers and for employees about the impact that errors may have on long-term retirement savings?

The CIPP policy team would very much like to hear from you if you have any experiences that you would like to share and also ask, if you can spare a moment, to consider and respond to the following two questions.

1) Where do you go to for information and guidance about automatic enrolment? 2) If you could create a wish list of improvements to workplace pensions what items would that wish list include?

Please respond by email to policy@cipp.org.uk marking your emails for the attention of Jill Smith CIPP policy manager.

Thank you
