CIPP Payroll: need to know 2018-2019

Updates from the ICO on GDPR 12 June 2018

In light of GDPR being the new kid on the block, the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) publishes updates to their guidance on a regular basis.

Updates over the month of May include detailed guidance on:

• determining what is personal data • the right to be informed

• automated decision-making and profiling. • Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) • consent • children and the GDPR

The following guidance has been expanded:

• data protection by design and default • right of access • right to object • right to data portability

New pages have also been published on codes of conduct, and on certification.

This page on the ICO’s website is updated monthly to highlight and link to what’s new in the Guide to GDPR.

CIPP comment The General Data Protection Regulation came into force in the UK on 25 May 2018 and as we know only too well with any new legislation there is always more to learn as the different processes and procedures bed in. The CIPP run a half day training course which is still very relevant; to either reassure you that you are covering all bases and ensuring compliance, or if you are late to the table with GDPR, sanctions are extremely steep so you need to become fully compliant as soon as possible to protect you, your business and your customers.
