Civilian Response Unit Congratulations to the 10 new members of the Civilian Response Unit (CRU) who graduated on March 12. The group of men and women completed six weeks of training provided by Fort Worth Police Academy Staff and subject matter experts. The classes included US/TX Constitution, Radio Communica- tion, Driver Safety, Body Worn Camera, Texas Penal Code, Anti - Bias Training, Report Writing Concepts and Interviewing. The new CRU Specialists also participated in training dedicated to scenario performance evaluations with sworn officers as the CRU evaluators. This new unit will assist the police department and will answer nonviolent calls for service where an armed police response is not necessary.

New Gun Violence Unit In February, the Fort Worth Police Department established the Gun Violence Unit. The new unit is responsible for responding to non - fatal shooting calls. The team includes one sergeant and 6 detectives that were reassigned from other units.

Class 149 Graduation Congratulations to the graduates of Class 149 who graduated on March 26. The class resulted in 22 new officers on the streets of Fort Worth. The officers have been assigned to patrol divisions to begin the next phase of training.

COVID - 19 Vaccination Sites and CERT Volunteers

Thank you to all the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers who have been helping with multiple mass COVID - 19 vaccination sites. CERT volunteers have been deployed to the Bob Bolen Public Safety Complex, Texas Motor Speedway, and Farrington Field. CERT volunteers assist the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with traffic control, registration processes, and foot traffic throughout each vaccination site.
