Jean Engelke
In 1984, Jean received an Associate of Arts and Sci- ence in graphic design from Southwestern Michigan Col- lege. She later transferred to Western Michigan University, where she went on to earn a trio of degrees: a Bachelor of Science in printing management in 1991, a Master of Busi- ness Administration in business in 1993 and a Master of Science in industrial engineering management in 1996. As she left the world of academia, Jean carried her ed- ucator mindset from Western Michigan University into the business world. Her first position, in 1996, was as market- ing manager for Appleton Papers in Appleton, Wisconsin. Shortly after the turn of the century, in 2003, she joined Alcan Packaging of Appleton as its print services leader. “One of the most interesting things about Jean is her incredibly diverse background. She’s worked in so many areas of the flexographic supply chain,” says FTA Presi- dent Mark Cisternino. “That contributed significantly to her ability to help FTA over the years, on a number of different projects.” Those projects included judging the FTA Excellence in Flexography Awards; co-chairing, chairing and speaking at FORUM; serving as a member and chair of the FTA Board of Directors and FFTA Board of Trustees; participating on the Mentorship Leadership Team of Women of Flexo; and, of course, a member, co-chair and chair of the Flexo Qual- ity Consortium (FQC). In 2015, Jean joined RR Donnelley as Business Devel- opment Manager – Packaging Solutions Group. Two years later, she became the Director of Business Development – Packaging. And on a warm day in June 2018—after a career that spanned more than two decades and saw Jean bring her talents to nearly every corner of the flexographic industry—she made the most coveted job change of all, and retired.
