KAT AAT ACCOUNTING LEVEL 4 DIPLOMA After completing AAT Level 3, Kat progressed to the Level 4 Professional Diploma to further develop her accountancy skills and advance her career. The course offers her the flexibility to revisit lesson transcripts through the TEAMS study group, enabling her to learn at her own pace. “This qualification has not only taught me theory but also how to apply accountancy skills in real-life scenarios,” Kat explains. With English as her second language, she’s found the tutor support invaluable in helping her fully understand the lessons. Looking ahead, Kat plans to gain a full accountancy licence and set up her own practice. She highly recommends the course, praising the excellent teaching, modern facilities, and outstanding support.

PAUL BRICKLAYING LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA

After time away from education, Paul returned to study Bricklaying at Level 2 to pursue a career in a field he truly enjoys. “Bricklaying is a high-demand skill at the moment, and I wanted to move into something hands-on and fulfilling,” he explains. Now in his second year of study, Paul has developed a range of skills, including building walls, loading out, mixing, and constructing brick and block cavity walls. He praises the tutors and staff for creating a welcoming and supportive environment - whether through expert teaching or assistance from the College’s admin team with securing finances. “Returning to education was daunting, but the team at Preston College made it a really positive experience,” he says. In the future, Paul plans to join a building team as a semi-skilled bricklayer and continue gaining experience in the industry.

FUNDING & FINANCE

The Adult Skills Fund is available to support individuals, and depending upon your personal circumstances and your course of interest, you may be eligible to receive part or full funding to cover your tuition fees. Funding can often be complex, so our team of advisors are on hand to discuss your individual circumstances (including residency eligibility) and what financial support you may be able to receive. You may also be eligible to access a bursary for financial support, e.g. childcare and travel costs.

EMPLOYED You may be able to receive full funding if you are employed or self-employed, studying up to and including Level 3, and your annual income is below £25,000. This support is awarded based on your individual gross salary. For some Level 3 courses, if you are aged 19-23, earn more than £25,000 and have not achieved a full Level 3 qualification, you may also be eligible for full funding. For some individuals, you may be required to contribute to your tuition fees or for some Level 3 courses you may be eligible to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan. LEGAL ENTITLEMENTS Individuals aged 19+ may be fully funded for English and maths courses from Entry Level up to Level 2, if you have not already achieved a GCSE (or equivalent) at grade 4 or functional skills at Level 2. Individuals aged 19+ may be fully funded for digital skills courses from Entry Level up to Level 1, subject to your assessment being below Level 1. Individuals aged 19-23 who have not previously achieved a full Level 2 or full Level 3 may be fully funded, regardless of the earnings threshold or employment status, if the course has an eligible legal entitlement status. NOT CURRENTLY EMPLOYED If you are currently unemployed and are in receipt of an eligible state benefit, you may be able to receive full funding for your tuition fees in order to study up to and including eligible Level 3 programmes. State benefits refer to Universal Credit, Job Seekers Allowance and Employment and Support Allowance. If in receipt of other state benefits, this may be considered, depending on your individual circumstances.

EMPLOYER SPONSORSHIP If your course is being sponsored by your employer, we can organise for them to receive an invoice and we will require evidence that your employer has agreed to pay for your course. This payment option will be discussed with you prior to enrolment. FINANCIAL SUPPORT PACKAGES Depending on your individual circumstances you may be eligible to receive financial support in the form of a bursary, towards your travel expenses and childcare. Our Advisors will work with you to determine all available financial support. ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN Where funding is not available for some Level 3 courses, and where you are eligible, you could apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your tuition fees. Loan eligibility does not depend on your income, nor are there any credit checks, and you will not have to pay anything back until you are earning over £25,000. For loans taken for the academic year 2025/26, please refer to Student Finance England for repayment guidance. PAYING FOR YOUR COURSE If your chosen course costs £120 or more, you can choose to pay in instalments by direct debit. The construction industry plays a key role in Lancashire’s economy and remains a priority sector. With a £2 billion government boost to the Affordable Homes Programme, demand for house building skills is set to rise — but a major skills shortage within the sector poses a challenge. The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) estimates over 250,000 additional workers will be required by 2028 to meet demand. At Preston College, we offer courses for both aspiring and current construction professionals. Whether you’re looking to enhance DIY skills, learn a new trade alongside full-time employment, or pursue a career change, our Level 1 courses provide the perfect starting point.

If you’re already working in the sector, we offer Level 2, Diplomas, Green Skills courses, and NVQs from Level 2 to Level 7. We also offer HNCs, and Institute of Technology (IoT) courses designed to take your skills to the next level. Preston College’s hybrid learning approach combines weekly practical sessions held in college, with online guided self-study, allowing you to fit your studies around existing work and family commitments. All our programmes are continually updated to align with industry-standards, ensuring you are well-prepared to contribute to the sector’s growth and success.

PETER WATERCOLOURS & PAINTING

Following retirement and keen to change his lifestyle after an illness diagnosis, Peter enrolled on the Painting & Watercolours course at Preston College. He saw it as the perfect opportunity to develop his artistic skills, meet like-minded people, and establish his own unique painting style. Peter describes the course as well-structured, offering a balanced mix of theory, demonstrations, and personalised tutor support. Throughout the course he has gained focus, patience, and a deeper understanding of technique and process. “I’ve received excellent support from both the tutor and fellow students, and I’ve noticed a real improvement in my confidence and abilities,” he says. Now feeling more ambitious and confident with his projects, Peter plans to continue his creative journey by enrolling on the course again. “It’s a fantastic way to kick- start your journey with watercolours and build on your creativity.”

JOANNE & ISABEL CAKE BAKING

Joanne and Isabel, a mother-daughter duo, joined the cake baking course at Preston College for enjoyment and to expand their baking skills beyond the few cakes they usually make. The 9-week course gave them the chance to try new recipes, learn decorating techniques, and enjoy baking together in a friendly, social setting. They have particularly enjoyed baking alongside others, chatting, laughing, and sharing the experience, making the course both fun and educational. Both praise the tutor’s clear guidance and support, along with the college’s great communication and easy parking. While they don’t plan to pursue baking professionally, they’re keen to continue taking courses for personal enjoyment. Joanne and Isabel comment: “It’s not only a fantastic way to improve baking skills but also a great opportunity to meet new people and boost mental well-being after a busy day at work.”
