Preston College Adult Course Guide May 2025

COUNSELLING

Counsellors play a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of society. Working in confidential settings, you will help individuals navigate a wide range of complex and often challenging issues. At Preston College, our counselling courses emphasise the importance of self-reflection and resilience, ensuring you are well-equipped to provide effective support to people as they work through these issues. As a qualified counsellor, you can work in a variety of settings, including schools, colleges, universities, GP surgeries, hospitals, in the workplace, addiction services, disability

support groups, and private practice. Many professionals choose to train in counselling to either move into a new career or to enhance their existing skills. If you are looking to enter the profession, you will begin at Level 2, with progression opportunities to Level 3, Level 4, and degree-level programmes. If you are already working in the sector, you can advance your qualifications through a Foundation Degree or BSc (Hons) Top-up Degree, gaining formal recognition for your experience, skills, and sector-based knowledge.
