and effectiveness, review to ensure that pro- cedures reflect the changing estate. • Undertake minor works and maintenance / refurbishment projects. Producing briefs and specifications in conjunction with the relevant stakeholders and internal clients. Make sure that works are carried out after liaison with colleagues throughout the museum. • During project works - providing timely and effective communication to stakeholders and monitoring the quality of workmanship and progress according to the programme. • Provide specialist engineering advice to inter- nal and external parties engaged in project related works. • Engage in the handover phase of major pro- jects, ensuring satisfactory familiarisation and that adequate commissioning and O&M documentation is in place. • Engage with the project delivery teams and contractors to check the quality of workman- ship in projects and delivery against brief and design. • Supervise contractor works on site to check compliance with CDM, health and safety re- quirements; Work closely with colleagues in the Health & Safety Section to ensure that the Museum’s estate and working practices within your area of responsibility are compli- ant with legislative and museum policies and procedures. • Follow the appropriate V&A procurement procedures to ensure best value for money for the organisation. • Be committed to sustainability, ensuring famil- iarity with the Museum’s sustainability policies

and procedures. Consider sustainability in the brief, design and installation of all new equip- ment. • Periodically assess the condition of engineer- ing systems throughout the estate, making recommendations to the Head of Estate in re- spect of any remedial or replacement works. • To understand and consider the work of the wider museum when planning and imple- menting maintenance work or new projects, to communicate effectively to those whose remits/workspaces are affected and to act as an advocate for the Division and museum both internally and externally. • Utilise IT systems wherever possible, with a spe- cific emphasis on maximising the capabilities of the CAFM system and other specialist soft- ware. • Promote equality and diversity in all aspects of your work by developing and maintain- ing positive working relationships, ensuring that colleagues are treated fairly and with respect/dignity and actively contributing to developments that support the museum’s strategy for widening access, inclusion, and diversity. • Be highly security conscious, ensure familiari- ty and co-operation with all museum security procedures and ensure you wear a security pass at all times when on museum premises. Context The Estate team brings together expertise in technical services, engineering, surveying and housekeeping and ensures that the buildings are safe, always fit for purpose and beautifully pre- sented. We manage a number of conservation, restoration and refurbishment projects, and also manage all bac of house spaces and facilities, working with colleagues across the whole organ- siation. We also play an integral role in the deliv- ery of captial projects - including the new devel- opments across the V&A estate in London and further afield. Main Purpose of the Job The Technical Lead (maintenance) has responsi- bility for the operation and maintenance of the Museum’s mechanical and electrical facilities. Working as part of a small Estate team, the post- holder will provide engineering expertise in sup- port of the entire estate, ensuring the buildings are fit for purpose, operating at their full potential

and that we are compliant with statutory require- ments. Key Responsibilties • Effectively manage the upkeep and opera- tion of the museum’s mechanical, electrical and life safety systems using planned and re- active maintenance techniques. Use these systems to ensure that the environmental conditions in gallery spaces are maintained. • Manage the performance of external M&E providers and contractors, ensuring that KPIs are reported and monitored according to the relevant contract requirements. • Making sure that the organisation is statutorily compliant regarding Public Health, fire, and life safety systems. • Monitor the use of utilities, taking every oppor- tunity to reduce energy consumption on the V&A estate and maximise efficiency of plant and equipment. • Manage procedures to ensure their relevance
