Memory'Verse.—We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19. Approach.— Show a good picture of Jesu s w ith his disciples a t th e table, explaining th e custom of reclining on one side as .they ate. I often use the sand table, making BEGINNERS table and couches of AND PRIMARY paste board, and the Mabel L. M errill children get a good idea of the way they were grouped around table. Prayer. Lesson Story.—Who will tell us a sto ry about th ree questions Jesus asked Peter, and w hat was th ere in th a t story th a t showed how much' Jesus loved th e children? T hank you, children. Now P eter was rig h t when he said Jesus knew all things, and He knows whether ifre really love Him in our h earts. (Be very careful to explain to the children th e meaning of th e Passover, and lead them up to th e p reparation for this tim e.) Now we see the disciples did as Jesus asked them , and got everything ready for the Passover feast. In the evening Jesus and His twelve disciples reclined together around the table. Jesus said to them , “ I have greatly de sired to eat th is passover w ith you be fore I die, for I say unto you, I will not any more eat of the lamb th a t has been sacrificed, until I myself have been sacrificed for the sins of th e people.” Our B verse in John 1:29 tells us th a t Jesus is God’s lamb th a t tak eth away th e sin of the world. As they ate of th e passover, Jesus said to them , “Truly, I say unto you, one of you who are ea t ing w ith me shall betray me.” Then th e disciples were filled, w ith sorrow, and they looked a t one another won dering who it could be. on Jesu s’ bosom, and th is disciple’s name was John. P ete r; motioned to John for him to ask Jesus who it could be. John th en said to him, “Lord, Who is it? ” Jesus answered, “ It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread, when I have dipped it in th e dish, and he gave the bread to Judas. Judas did not love Jesus in his h eart, or he could never have been so wicked and cruel. Soon afte r this, Jesus was cruci fied, and while hanging on the cross and suffering g reat pain, Jesus teaches us . a beautiful lessen. There stood by the cross of Jesus, His mother, and the disciple whom Jesus loved, who leaned on his bosom a t th e table. Because Jesus was going to die and leave her, Jesus wanted th a t disciple to tak e care of his mother.- Jesus then told John to let her be the same to him, from th a t time, as if she were his own mother. And he told his mother to le t th a t disciple be to her as if he were her son. From th a t hour John took her to his own home to take care of her, and give her all th a t she needed. Even though Jesus was suffering such g reat pain, he did not forget his mother, and saw th a t she was taken care of. John always stayed close to Jesus, and He (Jesus) knew He could tru st him to care for His mother. Jesus tells us we should honor fath e r and mother, and He honored and loved His mother. The best way to honor mother is to obey her, and help her in every way we can. John lived very close to Jesus and always did the things Jesus asked him to do, and he did the things th a t were pleasing to Jesus. (1 John 3 :2 2 ). Are we living close 'to Jesus and doing th e things He w ants us to do? We should love Him because He first loved us. Let us try all this week to see how many things we can do th a t will please Jesus, and th e best way is to always obey mother in all she tells us to do. Prayer.
