and we remember how Jesus asked John to take His mother and be like a son to her. Jesus knew John would do as He asked him to do. This week I was in a home where th e re are th ree children, and the oldest boy is nine years old. This boy had not been very easy to live with, and was not good about obeying m other, bu t about a month ago, he let Jesus come into his h ea rt to live. The mother said she would not know he was th e same boy, because he has changed into 'a new boy. He is more gentle and kind to little sister and brother, and obeys his mother the first time she speaks to him, and he tries to help her in every way he can. He teaches the memory verse to little sister, and every Sun day he tells our lesson story to father and mother, and bro ther and sister. Jesus was always helping people and making th e ir sick ones well. One day as he walked along, he passed by a man who was a tax collector, sitting at th e place where the people came to pay taxes. The tax collector was not liked by the people for so often he took more money th a n he should. Jesus knew about th is man, and He saw he was thinking too much about money, and not tak ing tim e to serve God or help others. So Jesus called to this man, whose name was Matthew, and asked him to come and follow Him (Jesu s). O ther people did n o t care much what became of Matthew, but Jesus loved him. Matthew left his tax
office, followed Jesus and helped Him. One way Matthew showed his love to Jesus was by asking a number of his friends to come to his house for dinner w ith Jesus. Matthew wanted th e peo ple all to know th a t he was a new Matthew, now th a t Jesus had come into l\is h eart. He was changed ju s t like the little boy was changed. There were a lo t of people in those days ju st like today who said they loved Jesus, and told o ther folks they' ought to love Him too, bu t they did not do th e things th a t were pleasing to Jesus, and they talked about Jesus and th e tru e fol lowers of Jesus. Some of these people talked abou t Jesus because He was eat ing dinner a t Matthew’s home w ith his friends. Jesus answered these people in the words of our memory verse. “ I am no t come to call th e righteous b u t sinners.” Jesus did not need to go afte r th e righteous, those already saved, b u t afte r the lost ones. Jesus called Matthew, and Matthew heard Him and came to Him. Jesus is call ing each one of us to come to Him now. Have we like Matthew invited Jesus to come into our hearts, and are we let ting Jesus have His way, so th a t those in our homes, and o u r friends, see a change in our lives? Are we doing the things th a t are pleasing to Jesus? Closing P rayer.— Dear Lord Jesus, come into our h earts to live, and help us every day to love Thee and serve Thee. jSl^,
