Hello and Merry Christmas! With Thanksgiving just behind us and Christmas quickly approaching, here at Mater Filius Colorado Springs, we are taking stock of our many blessings and counting our supporters twice! We could not be more grateful for the continued support you shower on our moms and their families. As we welcomed two new babies last month, with four more on the way in the new year, know that your generosity is enabling these moms and their babies to experience a warm place to sleep at night, nutritious family meals at mealtime, and a calm and supportive environment in which to finish their education, complete certifications, research improved career opportunities, nurture their babies, and so much more. 2025 FALL NEWSLETTER A Letter from the Directors
, This fall has been a very busy time for everyone. In September, our team of directors attended the Mater Filius National Conference in Omaha, NE. It was a great opportunity to connect with other Mater Filius leaders and teams throughout the world. We heard updates from our founders, Jose-Manuel and Miriam Tejeda, as well as from the directors of Mater Filius United States, Jim and Julie Mainelli. There are plans for several new Mater Filius houses in the United States, including Kansas City, MO, Lincoln and Grand Island, NE, and Milwaukee, WI. Internationally, the conference was even attended by a representative from Pakistan, and homes are in discussion for possible openings in France, Poland, and Peru! It is great to see that the work we are doing is flourishing and growing! With gratitude, Tom and Jeanne Barta

Our Newest Blessing and Addition, Baby Wyatt
We continue to humbly meet our mission of Defending Life with Love. As of Thanksgiving, we have served 34 moms in crisis, welcomed 12 new babies, embraced 10 toddlers, and are anticipating four more newborns between now and April 2026.
Our moms have also been busy this fall, receiving their high school diplomas, finishing CNA certifications, working on self-improvement, taking online parenting courses, attending a mother-infant bonding series (presented in the home on Thursday nights) and watching The Chosen with our spirituality director every Tuesday evening. In big and small ways, they are changing their lives and the lives of their babies. We are so very proud of each and every one of them…and we’ve loved seeing them have a little fun too, during this past Halloween season! Our Mathis Enjoying Life!

Please help us welcome Fr. Christian Vaca to the Mater Filius Team as our chaplain! Bishop James Golka ordained Father Christian Vaca to the Order of Priesthood on June 7, 2025. Father Vaca is a native of Guadalajara, Mexico, who completed his theology studies at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland. His first assignment in Colorado Springs is as parochial vicar at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish. We are grateful for Fr. Christian’s wisdom and guidance! Welcome Father Christian!
Tragically, we recently lost a beautiful, young team member from our Child Enrichment Program. Paulina Garcia, who left this world on October 16, 2025, following a serious automobile accident, was a bright, warm, and joyful 18-year old woman, who worked part time with our babies and toddlers. Her legacy will live on as we honor her incredible idea of creating stickers for computers, water bottles, letters, etc. She loved working at Mater Filius, and her family had a memorial fund set up in her name for Mater Filius Colorado Springs. We are forever grateful for Paulina’s presence at MFCS and ask that you keep Paulina and her family in your prayers at this incredibly difficult time. In Honor and Memory of Paulina Garcia
Here in Colorado Springs, we have continued to welcome and serve new moms and babies, and have had more graduates leave the house and become independent. We have completely filled our team of directors and our staff and volunteers continue to Defend Life with Love!

Prayer Warriors Continue to Make a Difference
Since establishing the prayer warrior team, we have seen a dramatic change in our home’s environment and in the attitudes and actions of our moms. We currently have two moms in OCIA classes, preparing to receive confirmation, become catholic, and baptize their babies. Please continue to support us in this priceless way.
