LDC SPOTLIGHT By John H. Daniels CNM, FACHE, FHIMSS, CPHIMS BICSI CEO The Leadership Development Committee (LDC) consists of a Chair, 2 Board members appointed by the Board President, and 4 elected BICSI members. Their main purpose is to facilitate the annual nominations process and present slates of eligible candidates for Board Officer, Board Director, and LDC elections each year. The LDC helps identify the leadership competencies and skills needed to achieve BICSIā€™s strategic goals and recommends strategies for identifying and developing BICSIā€™s future volunteer leaders. Each year, the LDC reviews BICSIā€™s strategic plan and facilitates the

annual Board and LDC self- evaluations to identify the competencies and skills gaps created by the outgoing Board and LDC members. The LDC then reviews and approves ā€œposition descriptionsā€ for the open positions defining the desired competencies and skills needed for the incoming Board and LDC members. The LDC then issues a call for self-nominations for the open positions (15 April - 31 May). For the Board Officer elections, only current Board members, other than the Board President, Board President- Elect, and Immediate Past Board President, may be eligible to self- nominate for a Board Officer position based on term limits defined in BICSIā€™s Bylaws. The LDC then presents to the Board a contested slate of all Board Officer candidates for only the Board members to vote (15-30 April). The candidate in each position with the highest number of votes is elected. For the Board Director and LDC Member elections, the LDCā€™s activities may include identifying possible candidates, contacting potential candidates, recruiting these candidates, interviewing
