Other considerations should include not moving the injured person as a single rescuer unless there is a pressing need to do so. For example, if the injured person is safe and stable it might be better to wait with extricating or moving them until help arrives. Where the use of a cervical collar cannot be avoided during a rescue then the following principles should be followed to minimise the risks: 1) Accurately size the cervical collar 2) Correctly fit the cervical collar 3) Continuously monitor the injured persons airway and breathing 4) Continuously monitor the injured persons facial colour for indications of jugular vein compression, this could be indicated by a change in facial colour 5) Remove the cervical collar as soon as it is possible to support the head and maintain the airway by other means.
