Elite PT January 2019

Be Your Own Best Advocate Physical Therapy Coverage in 2019 “What am I going to pay for physical therapy in 2019?” This is a question on many of our patients’ minds. New government decisions will affect us in a few ways, and one of them involves health insurance. With the long- awaited repeal of the therapy cap, there are some changes to physical therapy that may impact you — in some cases, for the better. Know what your insurance covers and doesn’t cover, particularly if your deductible starts over at the beginning of the year. You might know your current insurance guidelines, but if there are any changes, you should find out about them before you’re surprised by a bill. Here are some ways to find out about your health care coverage in the new year. KNOW YOUR DEDUCTIBLE AND COPAY Unfortunately, deductibles are all too common and often very high. Be prepared by making a plan to pay your deductible if you receive any health care services at the beginning of the year. Communicate with your provider to find out if you should expect increases in your expenses. Also be aware of copays and co-insurance costs. ASK YOUR PROVIDER, ‘WHAT AM I GOING TO OWE?’ You have the right to ask your insurance provider this question. Don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself and find out the details so you can know what to expect.

Peanut Butter and Berry French Toast

Ingredients •

2 cups cornflakes

8 slices brioche, 1/2-inch thick

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/4 cup creamy peanut butter

2 cups mixed berries

2 large eggs

Powdered sugar, to sprinkle

1/8 cup heavy cream

Maple syrup, for serving

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Directions 1. On a large baking sheet lined with wax paper, place 4 slices of brioche and spread 1 tablespoon of peanut butter on each. Cover with remaining slices, creating sandwiches. 2. In a pie plate, beat eggs with cream and vanilla. In another, coarsely crush the cornflakes. 3. Lightly soak sandwiches in the egg mixture, then dredge in cornflakes, pressing to adhere. Return to baking sheet. 4. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon butter. Once melted and up to temperature, add sandwiches, cooking on one side until golden and crisp, about 2–3 minutes. 5. Return sandwiches to baking sheet, add remaining butter, and repeat on other side. 6. Top sandwiches with berries, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and serve with maple syrup.
