The majority of South America has successfully eradicated FMD, with Venezuela being the exception. Brazil has set an ambitious goal to be FMD-free without vaccination by 2026. Bolivia has halted nationwide FMD vaccination, while Ecuador, Peru, and Panama have already achieved the status of being FMD-free without vaccination. Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, however, have not yet established a definitive timeline for vaccine withdrawal.

The BANVACO (Regional FMD Antigen Bank) project, coordinated by PANAFTOSA/PAHO, is making steady progress. Paraguay and Ecuador have already ratified the BANVACO Constitutive Agreement, with other countries following suit.

Key Resolutions: 1. Initiation of technical cooperation with Venezuela to bolster their FMD program. 2. Encouragement for countries to expedite their formalization process with BANVACO. 3. Request for PANAFTOSA/OPS to persist in providing technical cooperation for FMD emergency training. 4. Ratification of the PHEFA Biennial Plan 2024-2025. 5. Recognition of significant contributions to the fight against FMD in the Americas.

6. Tribute to PANAFTOSA/OPS for their relentless efforts against FMD. 7. Expression of gratitude to Brazil’s official authorities and private sector representatives for hosting the meeting. 8. Nomination of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, as the venue for the 51st Regular Meeting of COSALFA in April 2025.

Boehringer Ingelheim’s participation in the 50th COSALFA meeting underscores our commitment to staying at the forefront of the fight against FMD. By keeping abreast of the latest developments and maintaining close relationships with our customers, we strive to provide the most effective solutions to those affected by FMD and TADs.
