In October of 2024, we announced the start of a new chapter in the story of Scheurer with the addition of Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Since then, our teams have been creating one cohesive organization, all centered around three elements: People, Service and Quality. By providing outstanding service to our patients in every capacity, we’re able to achieve higher quality outcomes, while making Scheurer Health one of the best places to work in the in the Thumb of Michigan. This doesn’t happen overnight, nor does it even happen in just a couple of short years. It’s rooted in what our hospitals have stood for yesterday, today and into the future. So now, the journey and story of Scheurer Health continues forward, not as two separate health systems, but as one organization spanning from coast to coast across the entire Thumb of Michigan. We have spoken many times about the history of Scheurer Health, its origins, its main characters and key moments, all stemming from the vision that Dr. Clare A. Scheurer had more than eight decades ago. What makes Harbor Beach such a great partner in our quest for Better Health is that the very same set of beliefs, principles and community integration can be found throughout its history. In fact, while Scheurer Hospital was founded in 1945, Harbor Beach Community Hospital had a 25-year headstart in providing care to the local community, opening its doors in 1920.
