VILLAGE OF WILLOWBROOK NEWS
BORSE MEMORIAL COMMUNITY PARK PHASE II & III For Phase II, construction was able to begin after the Village received our Notice of Intent (NOI) from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources on July 7th, 2024, for our Open Space Land Acquisition and Development Grant (OSLAD). The OSLAD grant awarded the Village $600,000 to assist with the development and enhancements that were presented for Phase II of the project. With approval and clearance after the grant award, the permeable paver parking lot work began as well as the excavation for the pickleball courts. The existing playground was removed, and that area was excavated for the new batting cages and bullpen area. Streambank excavation and clearing began on October 14, 2024, to prepare for the streambank restoration. I am sure many of you drove by on 75th Street and noticed the change. There was rock riffle installed in the creek and rock toe were created to help with soil erosion control and bank stabilization. New solar parking lights were installed at the Eleanor parking lot. Along with a western pedestrian trail with now connects to the pedestrian walk on Midway Drive. The pond enhancements will take place in late winter and early spring, and it will transform the area wildlife habitat while also enabling the body of water to now support a fish population for residents to enjoy. PHASE III UPDATE: The Village was fortunate to receive another OSLAD grant of $600,000 for Phase III of the Borse Memorial Community Park Redevelopment project. Staff, engineers, and landscape architects are currently finalizing all plans and documents for the final phase of the project. This phase will include a new splash pad, ADA accessible playground, poured-in-place rubber surface, new pavilion/restroom, shade structures, new pollinator garden and rain garden area, renovation of all three softball fields, renovation to the basketball court, replacement of the walking paths, pedestrian bridge, and Veteran’s Memorial. With the grant award, there are some procedural steps that need to be completed prior to beginning the project. With that said, construction is anticipated to begin in Summer 2025 with an anticipated completion date of late Fall 2025. Once we are closer to completion, details about a re-opening ceremony will be shared with the public. This will be a joyous occasion to celebrate the enhancements and improvements to your community park!
