Light Diesel Engine and Performance for the Gas Technician 10/1/22, 8:30am - 11:30am Class #103, Amway Governor's Room The course is designed to introduce the gasoline technician to light diesel engine and performance repairs. The ideal student does not currently work on the light duty diesel vehicles but would like to expand their knowledge base in this area. Highlights include: similarities between direct- injection gasoline and diesel engines, maintenance and care of diesels, exhaust after-treatment, codes/ PIDs and monitor diagnosis, and no-code diagnosis. This course is designed to enhance the technician’s ability to diagnose electrical systems. You may bring your own DVOM (Digital Multi- Meter). If you do not bring one, we will have some available for you to use. You can attend one or both sessions. What we'll cover: • Basic electrical diagnosis • Discuss the operations and diagnosis of relays and relay circuits • How to use a multimeter • Proper electrical probing • Hands-on testing of basic electrical systems, relay testing, and diagnosing • Voltage drop introduction • Electrical schematics (interpreting and reading) Hands-on Electrical: Part 2 10/1/22, 1:30pm - 4:30pm Class #207, Amway Thornapple This course is designed for those with an electrical background but would like a review on using a DVOM, wiring schematics, or how a relay works. This course will use simulation boards that you will build, test, and use to diagnose electrical circuits. This course will be about 80% hands-on. You can attend one or both sessions. Understanding how circuits are built and components function are key in any system. This course starts right at the components and works outward from the power sources to understand the road map traveled to and from. This course is designed to help a beginning technician navigate on their electrical diagnostic training path. Highlights include: components and their operation, batteries and operation, circuit types and the flow, reading and using a wiring diagram, and basic starter and alternator function. We’ll give you a clear path between no crank and crank no start, as well as misfires and low power. Now is the time to learn the order and easy diagnostic procedures: power balance (without smoking the computer), compression, wet compression, leakage, running compression, and back pressure. We'll also cover why you should own a simple spark tester and noid light. Also included is how to handle lean and rich fuel trim. You’ll walk away with useful knowledge and a clear understanding of how to attack a base engine or performance issue!
