FUEL DELIVERY CRD and GDI Similarities and Differences 10/1/22, 1:30pm - 4:30pm Class #227, DeVos River Overlook E This course covers the similarities and differences between CRD and GDI systems. Part 1: the student will be able to identify the CRD and GDI system features and understand common and unique diagnosis, including interpreting related scan tool and oscilloscope data. Part 2: will provide the student with information about the air system components including cylinder charging methods, EGR systems, turbocharger controls and variable valve timing. Air system components and operation will be explained as well as explaining the interpretation of scan tool and oscilloscope data for accurate diagnosis. Part 3: provides the student with an understanding of both the low and high pressure fuel systems. The differences between GDI and CRD fuel components and systems are identified. Testing and troubleshooting procedures are emphasized including the use of recommended service tools, scan tool data, and oscilloscope tests for accurate diagnosis. Part 4: provides the student with an understanding of the emission reduction aftertreatment systems used by both GDI and CRD vehicles. Some topics discussed include wideband O2 sensors, switching O2 sensors and catalytic converter operation. This course includes information of common diesel emission components, including the DeNox SCR system. Testing and troubleshooting procedures are emphasized including use of the recommended service tools, scan tool data, and oscilloscope tests

Fuel Trim Wins: Diagnosing Fuel Control Monitors 10/1/22, 8:30am - 11:30am Class #111, DeVos Gallery Overlook D Vacuum leaks, dripping injectors, and MAF sensor contamination are just a few problems than can lead to fuel control monitor fails. Today’s engine management systems require drivability technicians to go beyond fuel trim essentials. Changes to O2 sensors (switching vs. wide band) along with radically different terms and techniques used on some European models require a deeper knowledge of fuel trim in order to confirm the correct diagnosis. This up-to-date Delphi Technologies by BorgWarner course covers a review of traditional fuel trim diagnostics and volumetric efficiency testing, effect of A/F (wide band) O2 sensors on fuel trim, fuel trim within fuel pump control modules (SFI and GDI), GDI (Gas Direct Injection) fuel trim differences, FCA’s goal voltage, European fuel trim terms and strategies, and much more!

"Top Fuel" Diagnostics: Advanced Tips for SFI and GDI 10/1/22, 1:30pm - 4:30pm Class #211, DeVos Gallery Overlook D Fuel pump control modules for SFI and GDI (gas direct injection) along with the radically redesigned 3-phase BLDC (brushless) fuel pumps are becoming more common on today’s vehicles. Delphi Technologies by BorgWarner has developed a real world training course that will assist drivability techs in obtaining the diagnostic edge on fuel systems with advice on: fuel delivery tips/advanced fuel pump diagnostics, GDI high pressure pump failures/preventing in-tank fuel pump come backs, dealing with GDI carbon deposits, diagnosing BLDC 3-phase low pressure fuel pumps, and scan tool PIDs, and meter/scope pattern analysis.

Diagnostic Data Analysis: Part 1 & 2 Part 1

Part 2 10/1/22, 1:30pm - 4:30pm Class #221, DeVos Grand Gallery F

10/1/22, 8:30am - 11:30am Class #121, DeVos Grand Gallery F

How do we see anomalies that set codes if they only exist for a short period of time? This course will focus on exhaust aftertreatment data while demonstrating how to discover, understand, prove and repair difficult-to-find faults. Several examples ranging from code setting faults all the way to no code diagnostics will be used. This course will demonstrate how to maximize uptime by shortening diagnostic time. Keep Your Cool with 1234yf 10/1/22, 1:30pm - 4:30pm Class #212, DeVos Gallery Overlook E

Presented By: Delphi Speaker: Jim Wilson

Today’s evolving A/C systems are more complex compared to those on vehicles only a decade ago. The know-how and costs for adapting your service routines to HFO-1234yf are only a small part of the modern mobile HVAC puzzle. Changes to heat exchangers and A/C compressors can sometimes cause even the best techs to “lose their cool” when trying to diagnose modern A/C systems! Join the course to become familiar with HFO-1234yf service updates, best practices and EPA mandates, belt driven and electric variable displacement compressor diagnostic techniques, A/C system scan tool tips, and more.
