HYBRID SYSTEMS Hybrid DTCs 10/1/22, 8:30am - 11:30am Class #113, DeVos Gallery Overlook F

BEV, HEV, and 48 Volt Systems 10/1/22, 1:30pm - 4:30pm Class #226, DeVos River Overlook D

This course covers the most common DTCs on hybrid vehicles. Tools, equipment, hybrid components, and batteries are covered, along with examples of what and how. This course will provide helpful information for novice and experienced technicians.

The introduction to BEV and HEV service strategies explains how these increasingly popular vehicles operate. In this course, the student will gain knowledge on the components, operating strategy, and unique powertrain configurations. Students will learn to identify the components and understand the safe practices required to service these types of vehicles. Students gain knowledge on the 48 Volt DC systems and how they are implemented to work with traditional 12 Volt DC systems. This course explains these systems and provides students with the knowledge needed to identify and describe the various components.

Hybrid Vehicles Service and Diagnostics 10/1/22, 1:30pm - 4:30pm Class #225, DeVos River Overlook C

Presented By: Bosch Speaker: Karl Schneider

This clinic is designed to expand the technician’s ability to diagnose hybrid vehicle high voltage systems and batteries. It will also include information on the hybrid motor/ generator functions, including purpose and testing parameters. Inverter technology and operation principles will be discussed with an emphasis placed on using scan tool diagnostic PIDs. We will discuss hybrid drive systems commonly being used today by various manufacturers, including the Type 1 (series), Type 2 (parallel), and Type 3 (series/parallel) systems with an emphasis placed on power and testing. Lastly, we will discuss hybrid vehicle maintenance, service, safety considerations, and the advancements in technology that are headed into service bays.

TRANSMISSION

Transmission Diagnostics for Non-Transmission Technicians 10/1/22, 8:30am - 11:30am Class #120, DeVos Grand Gallery E

Transmissions have been controlled by computers for a long time. As a result, these issues can be electrical or hydraulic/mechanical in nature. When a vehicle with a transmission issue rolls into a shop, it is often “shipped” to a transmission shop. Why? A perfectly capable technician who can accurately diagnose an engine issue could also tackle the transmission issue. Using tools and techniques that drivability technicians already possess, we will discuss how to draw the line between an electrical problem or an internal transmission issue. Basic knowledge of automatic transmissions is a plus, but this course is geared towards non-transmission technicians.
