Reports were produced for each thematic area followed by a final report containing health policy recommendations. Projects Administered by STACIE The St Augustine Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (STACIE) assists researchers with sourcing funds through grants, consultancies and industry contracted research. In the 2021/2022 academic year, many of those projects were aimed at protecting the natural environment and building resilience regionally to cope with climate change. They included the following:
Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) Mechanism for Blue Carbon US$ 996,000
DEFRA Grant executed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB): In 2019, the IDB, with support from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA), established the UK Blue Carbon Fund to help reduce the negative impacts of climate change on blue carbon ecosystems. The aim is to provide participating countries with a science-based data platform on the sequestration and release of blue carbon in mangrove systems. The regional MRV will help monitor the progress of the projects that are implemented under the Fund. Sustainable Development of Fisheries and Aquaculture Value Chains in ACP Countries: Support for the Value Chain Analysis and Action Plan Development for the Seabob Fishery Value Chain in Guyana US$64,960 FAO Grant: This is a five-year European Union-funded programme launched in January 2020. It aims to: • improve stakeholders understanding of the functioning of the value chain to support specific improvement strategies; • increase micro, small and medium-sized enterprises’ (MSMEs) economic performance through strengthened market access, conducive business and regulatory environments; • improve the inclusiveness and the social sustainability at the different stages within the value chain; • enhance environmental sustainability of selected value chains through improved management of natural resources and increased consideration for climate change and
International Teaching Artist Collaborative (ITAC) Think Tank: Building Capacity TT$2,252,600
Consultancy funded by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago (GORTT): The main objective of this project was to provide consultancy service to support and strengthen the strategic threat assessment capacity in Trinidad & Tobago.
Enhanced Biodiversity Project TT$146,000
Consultancy funded by the National Gas Company (NGC): Researchers sought to determine the impact of flora and fauna biodiversity on the NGC’s reforestation programme.
