ALIGNMENT In keeping with the objective to increase and improve academic/industry research partnerships, the Campus acknowledged the importance of creating an enabling environment, and an Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) ecosystem capable of transforming new concepts into vi- able commercial entities. Currently, the key elements of the I&E ecosystem are the Technology Transfer Fund, The UWI Ventures Company (incorporated in 2019), the St Augustine Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (STACIE) and the Entrepreneurial Unit (EU) in the Faculty of Social Sciences. Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) Across the Campus, memoranda of understanding were signed with public and private entities. Examples include: • A cooperation agreement was signed between the St. Augustine Campus and The Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM) to implement aspects of a joint project between PISML and The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). UWI’s role includes the establishment of a PISLM/SOILCARE Regional Research Facility on New Climate Resilient Adaptation Technologies. The UWI has also agreed to lease at least 25 acres of the 200 acre Agriculture Innovation Park at the Orange Grove Estate in East Trinidad. • A two-year MOU with Chinese technology company, Huawei that will allow students and staff ifrom the Campus to prticipate in the four programmes that comprise Huawei’s ICT Talent Development Plan: • Seeds of the Future, which provides hands on training in new and emerging technology, at Huawei’s headquarters.

Final-year, visual arts degree student Shania Warris, and visual arts degree alumna Shireen Ragobir assisted Colombian artist Paula Osorio Tintadelrio with the execution of a large-scale mural, 115 feet x 12 feet, at NALIS’s Abercromby street wall. The painting titled “The Caribbean Sea Which Unites Us” is a gift from the Colombian Government to Trinidad’s capital city of Port of Spain. • ICT academy, which provides courses and support services to universities and colleges to help them train teachers, establish and optimise ICT majors, improve the curriculum system, and build standard labs. • A global ICT talent competition that focuses on certifying students, strengthening and putting technical knowledge into practice. • An Internship programe for new graduates providing them with hands-on work experience at Huawei .
