Strategic HIGHLIGHTS

• An MOU between The UWI and the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries (MEEI) was prepared to collaborate and to offer Department of Chemical Engineering MSc students from Guyana an internship/industry attachment. • An MOU between The UWI and the University of Trinidad & Tobago (UTT) to conduct joint Research on Carbon Capture, Storage and Utilisation. • The Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL) and The UWI signed an MOU for an exchange of technical information specifically aimed at: • reducing solid waste and landfilling on a national level. • achieving low carbon emissions on a national level by reducing fossil fuel emissions and decarbonising our waste sectors. • decarbonisation within the power sector by supplying clean energy to our national grid. • Proman Global Development LLC and the UWI agreed to collaborate on a research project entitled: “Proman- UWI Waste-to-Bio-resource Supply Chain Analysis within Trinidad and Tobago.

• An MOU was signed in June 2021 with the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturing Association (TTMA) to facilitate knowledge sharing and internships for students of the Chemistry Analytical and Industrial programmes. • An MOU was signed with South Carolina State University in June 2022 for the development of a student-led export/import business comprising of students from both universities. (Faculty of Social Sciences). Entrepreneurship & Innovation The Entrepreneurship Unit (EU) based at the Faulty of Social Sciences continued to support projects such as BITREM, a technology-based entity that has developed patented technology in the biometrics space and is currently in the process of establishing the technology commercially; and the Fine Cocoa initiative out of the Cocoa Research Centre. The Unit also continued to partner with the Campus Main Library to provide IP Office Help Desk guidance and advice for improving the efficiency and visibility of the UWI Patent Office. The Unit provided support to individual entrepreneurs out of the Faulty of Food & Agricultur e in the development of a Vertical Farming Proposal; the Faculty of Engineering for the development of an app-based Event Management Service; and the Faulty of Social Sciences for the development of a robotics and app development start-up company / Orbtronics (https://www.orbtronics.co). The Unit also provided support to external entities including a plastics recycling plant, an online market place, an online learning platform and the Moruga Hill Rice company.
