Chemtastic Weekend Festival This annual outreach event run on 2 July 2022 was organised using funding provided by the American Chemical Society through the Festival Grant programme. The event brought 93 fifth and sixth form students to the Department of Chemistry for a series of activities which included talks on the role of chemistry in society, hands-on laboratory experiments and demonstrations, and learning to use 3D Virtual Reality applications. International Day for Women and Girls in Science The “Walking in Her Footsteps” programme was run in February 2022. It involved seven female secondary school students spending a day at the Chemistry Department working alongside female academic staff and post-graduate students. Visiting students were exposed to the life of a chemist, learnt about the research work at the UWI and about careers and pathways in the chemical sciences. This programme was in commemoration of the International Day for Women and Girls in Science. Speech-Language Pathology Webinars The Department of Modern Languages & Linguistics (DMLL) hosted three webinars on Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) in June 2022. The SLP postgraduate students provided insights into the role of Speech-Language Pathology and covered an array of topics from Speech Sound Disorders to Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Kingstown. The short story for the animation project was developed by students who also created the props and stills used in the animation and narrated the story. In addition, several of the animations produced under the Volcano Ready Communities Project (VR Project) were officially selected for prestigious film festivals. The films were showcased in St Vincent & the Grenadines, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. Both “Vincy Voices”and“Volcano inna Me Backyard”are available on the UWI Seismic Research channel on YouTube. Voice & Nadia #BreakTheBias with Digicel and IGDS The Institute for Gender & Development Studies, St. Augustine Unit (IGDS SAU) collaborated with Digicel Group Trinidad and Tobago for IWD 2022. Brand Ambassadors recognised International Women’s Day underlining gender equity and the IWD 2022 theme “break the bias” in recorded messages from soca stars and brand ambassadors Nadia Batson and Aaron ‘Voice’ St. Louis. The IGDS SAU also collaborated with Digicel to generate IWD 2022 thematic messaging on in-store digital billboards. Math Fair 2021 The Department of Mathematics and Statistics with support from the Dean, hosted the Annual UWI MATH Fair on 12 March 2021. The theme was “Relevance of Math in a Pandemic”. In its fifth year, the event was held online and saw 2,803 students and 105 teachers registering to attend from 43 schools in Trinidad & Tobago. Up to the day of the event, there were 3,713 unique visitors and 7,760 total visits to the website. The UWI Math Fair website, www.uwimathfair.com had a total of 5,694 visitors, with 2,829 unique visitors.
