Methanol Fuel Project Members of the Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering were engaged by Methanex to undertake a five- month project to analyse the opportunities for the use of methanol as a marine and vehicle fuel in Trinidad & Tobago. The project complements ongoing collaborative work with Methanex and Massy-CAT to develop greener fuels—the Methanol Biodiesel Diesel Substitution (MB-DS) project.
Suriname, and Trinidad & Tobago. A total of 194 nurses were trained in this programme to support the capacity of nursing personnel to respond to the intensive care needs of persons with COVID-19. Food Safety in the Cottage Poultry Industry The School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) at The UWI, St Augustine’s Faculty of Medical Sciences executed a project, on behalf of the Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO), on Food Safety and Meat Hygiene in the Cottage Poultry Industry in T&T from late 2020 to November 2021. With support from the Marketing & Communications Office, the SVM produced a comprehensive food safety manual for pluck shop operators and inspectors, digital collateral such as infographics to be shared on websites and social media, and hosted a three-hour webinar for those either working or interested in the cottage poultry industry in Trinidad & Tobago. Training for Livestock Farmers In August 2021, in response to a request from the national Ministry of Agriculture, Land & Fisheries, staff from the SVM delivered 4 one-hour lectures to livestock farmers and livestock enthusiasts on Common Diseases Affecting Livestock Production. Quality Management Workshops The Department of Chemistry hosted three full-day workshops with the Trinidad & Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS) on Quality Management Systems, ISO9001 and ISO 17025 in March and April 2022.
