Motors with integrated Electronics Technology – short and to the point
On motors with integrated electronics, the electronic commutation (usually block commutation with Hall sensors) is built in. Usually speed control and other functionalities, such as activation, reversal of direction of rotation, or speed monitor, are also implemented.
Integrated Electronics
Properties – Can be operated directly with DC voltage – No additional electronics required for commutation – Less wiring required compared to external electronics, fewer connections – Integrated commutation electronics with 4Q speed control (Hall sensor feedback) – Configurable speed range – Configurable set value specification: analog voltage, fixed set value – Configurable digital inputs and outputs: Enable, Direction, Monitor outputs for speed or current. Specific properties of brushless ECX FLAT motors with integrated electronics – Short design – Very high torques as a result of the NdFeB magnet segments in the rotor and the open design – Short and long versions with diameters ranging from 22 mm to 42 mm – Version also available without integrated electronics – Mechanical and electrical interfaces can be configured online ECX FLAT
Protective functions and controller behavior The integrated motor controller includes numerous protective mechanisms: – Overload protection – Stall protection – Reverse polarity protection – Excess temperature protection – Low/high voltage cutoff These functions affect the operating behavior: In the event of overcurrent, excess temperature, or voltage fluctua- tions, the motor shuts down abruptly. Result: – Load profiles must be designed in such a way that the protective functions do not intervene. – In applications with highly variable load torques (e.g., robotics or pumps), including reserves in the planning is essential.
Function range The controller installed in ECX FLAT motors with integrated electronics is a fully integrated 4-quadrant speed controller that operates the motor without additional external commutation electronics. It precisely controls the speed via an analog set value (0…10 V) or digital inputs, allowing functions such as enable, direction, and speed command to be directly controlled.
Cylindrical Motors
Cylindrical BLDC motors can also be offered with integrated electronics if specifically requested by the customer. Please contact your local maxon sales organization.
