Welcome to our 2026 annual production sale. We thank you for your past patronage, and we look forward to the future by supplying you with genetics you can trust and count on. We continue to try to “Seek the Balance” with our program, bringing cattle with adequate growth for this environment, but structurally sound, and most of all maternal. Oh, and let’s not forget about keeping length in cattle. Length = meat. A lot has transpired for us in 2025. We lost both Sitz Resilient 10208 and B Bar Black Mass 3045. We have a semen bank on Black Mass, so we will continue to use him when and where we can. We will also be trying to find sons that will work as well as he did. Another adjustment is that this year will be our last sale we hold at the Bull Palace in Baker. The Bull Palace has had a lot of great memories over its 34 years of use including two marriage proposals. Our thanks to the families that helped construct it in 1992 the Hammel’s, Johnson’s and Ehret’s. Starting in 2027, we plan to hold the sale at the ranch. We have a very busy year ahead of us designing, building and corrals. All first calf heifers are ratioed in their own contemporary group, and the mature cows are then their own contemporary group. We have a total of four contemporary groups: Group A: 1st calf heifers with heifers; Group B: 1st calf heifers with bull calves.
Group C: mature cows with heifer calves; Group D: mature cows with bull calves. The reason we went to these contemporary groups was 20+ years ago all of the bull calves on the 1st calf heifers indexed over 100 which is unfair because of the adjustments made for them by the American Angus Association. And we wanted to identify the higher indexers of the 1st calf heifers. This is why we chose to do it this way. In the first calving heifers essentially half should be 100 index or above, the other half should be 99 index and below. All bulls are raised right here on the ranch. They are also fed here on the ranch. We continue to feed for a 3.25 average daily gain. Our preference is to grow them and not fatten them. We understand that they need condition on themselves for the breeding season, but over fattened bulls present some other breeding detriments, so we attempt to grow them to let them carry some reserve for the upcoming breeding season. The feeding ration continues to be one-third corn and two-thirds oats after coming off their weaning pellet. We hold them under 1% of total body weight. Example: If they weigh 1000 lbs., they are likely getting 8 lbs. of grain per day along with long stemmed hay and ground hay. Our goal is to bring you a 6-frame bull with length, muscle and structure. Again, thank you for your support and interest in our program.
